About
I am not French.
My maiden name is Wolf and every good domain name with the word Wolf in it was taken.
BUT-we did get to spend some time in Paris last summer and it’s still with me…so Loup is the French word for Wolf.
My husband and I really thought about a good blog name and came up with InTheLoup.com. We thought it was so clever. ‘In the Loop!’ we laughed. ‘It’s a double entendre! It sounds like, stay in the loop, in English, but means Wolf in French! HaHaHa! How brilliant!’
But of course, if you pronounce the word Loup properly, it is pronounced Loo. So that would be…IntheLoo…dot com.
And while that title still seemed very internationale encompassing the French word for Wolf AND the British term for Toilet, I thought better of it.
Triple entendres seem ominous and I don’t want to start off on the wrong foot. So I scooped up the available domain, La Maison du Loup, or The House of Wolf and here we are.
This blog currently charts our family’s recent NYC sabbatical. My husband is on tour throughout the US with the 25th Anniversary tour of Les Miserables. He somehow tricked us into joining him.

Thrilled to have you now following my blog, because I am quite excited to read about your endeavors as well. Especially the French part! Bonne journée!
You had me at handmade nutella!
What a gorgeous blog! Hope to get a chance to dig through your archives and catch up. I love the surname “wolf” and for a brief moment had an Etsy shop called Sugar Wolf! Inadvertently contributing to the deficit in available “wolf” domain names I guess. But your domain name rocks anyhow.
Ha! Well thank you. Your work is so lovely, ps. I can’t remember how I stumbled on it…but I’m so glad I did.
that is a very well written piece, cheers!!
Cheers!
what a lovely blog, thank you for stopping by!
Cheers!
I think your blog name couldn’t be any better. It is perfect!
Oh thank you. I’ve become quite fond of it now…whiskeytangofoxtrot is pretty great too !!
Hi Elizabeth, Absolutely great intro to your blog and name choice! Love the name and I’m hooked. Or, as I recently learned, you could have gone the Estonian route and chosen “Hell Hunt” meaning “gentle wolf!” Enjoy your sabbatical. All the best, Terri
Hell Hunt! I love it. I’ll make my husband call me that.
Thanks for following my blog! I hope I may be able to show you Norway and Norwegian nature at its best and – there are lots of pictures published here already. New photo reports will be added every week. (At least that’s the plan A
)
I’m really looking forward to your posts. I have no experience with Norway at all. It will be fun to learn. Cheers.
Elizabeth,
Thank you for liking my wine-related post on Flora’s Table: much appreciated.
You have a very nice and interesting blog!
Take care
Thank you. Cheers.
So happy to have discovered your beautiful blog (your son is SO adorable!). The first line of your ‘about’ page made me laugh as I am French and love the story of how you came to name your blog!
Oh thank you. The little man is a riot. And I hope you appreciate how I originally named it Le Maison Loup, having messed up my grammar somewhere. A girlfriend of mine form Paris burst out laughing and said, ‘It’s not French, but it’s cute!’
I figured la maison was taken already! But the mistake is cute
…yes, those husbands can be tricky! I know, I am one myself
tomas
Very tricky!
