What Happened Was…

So we’re moving into an apartment in the 100s.  Not in the 70s as originally planned.

Some of you asked me…what happened?

The only way I can explain it…is with a list.

Come back in time with me.  All the way back to the Monday after Thanksgiving, or, as I like to call it, Black Monday.

  • Mon-11/28-Waiting for lead abatement cert from city for apartment in 70s.
  • Tues-11/29-We find out they have to offer the apartment now to someone else first.  But  she thinks she wants to live on the East Side.  This was (bad) news to us dear Reader. We needed to move Thurs 12/1. They said we’d know Wed-first thing.
  • Wed-11/30-Heard nothing.
  • Thurs-12/1-Still don’t know if this woman wants the apt or not.  We go to Peter’s.  Michael contacts brokers for me to look at other apts.
  • Fri-12/2-Shari helps me move all our stuff to Peter’s.  They won’t know if this woman wants the apt until Mon.
I look at 3 apts. They’re just ok.
  • Sat/Sun-12/3-4-Wait
  • Mon-12/5-Woman still hasn’t decided if she wants apt.  Move to Blue Moon hotel.  Cancel all apt viewings.  Can’t do it…too much. Decide if this woman does want 70s apt, we will go on tour with Michael. Put a fork in me.
  • Tues-12/6-Woman still hasn’t decided.
  • Wed 12/7-4pm-Woman decides she is taking the apt.  I decide to join Michael on road. They say they have a 2 bedroom avail in 100s. No. I’m done. Going with Michael.  Move from hotel to Uncle T’s on Jane.
  • Thurs-12/8-Decide I should look at apt in 100s just in case. I love it. Better than one in 70s. It’s perfect. We could stay there for the rest of our lives.
  • Fri-12/9-Submit forms to do all financials.
  • Sat/Sun-12/10-11-Grinchy. Nervous about financials. Try not to think about it. Buy fat, little tree.
  • Mon-12/12-Mgmt office for apt closed.
  • Tues-12/13-Passed credit check, but don’t show enough income (eeek). Everything else looks good. We offer to pay 6 months up front. Maybe dad can co-sign. At 4pm they say they’ll decide by tomorrow. !!!!!!!!!!
  • Wed-12/14-1030am-Teaching class at New Dramatists. Look down at phone. Text from Michael says, ‘We got it!!!’ I cry.
  • Thurs 12/15-Michael flies home for less than 24 hours just to sign lease with me. And to see his own apt. He loves it.
  • Fri 12/16-Nanny Rigsby flies over via open umbrella from England to supervise the move (so incredibly sweet).
  • Sat 12/17-We get ready…
  • Sun 12/18-We get set…
  • Mon 12/19-9am-We meet the movers at storage and…

We GO!

The Blue Moon

The Blue Moon

Oh this week…holy cramoly.

I can see why some people might get addicted to a sort of fast paced, highs and lows type of life style. Crushing disappointments, dizzying successes, all in the matter of one hour…it certainly makes you feel like you’re alive I’ll tell you that. But I honestly think this year has been a little extreme now, don’t you? Did someone sign us up for a year long stint of Survivor Manhattan?  Candid Camera?  Because this week there have been moments where I’ve felt as if we were on both.

But nevermind all that…it’s Christmas time.

And since we still do not have an apartment (I will not even write down what happened with the apartment-I am too superstitious-I will tell you this-it aged me), Uncle T has offered for us to go back to Jane until December 20th (I mean…that is just so sweet).  But there is a TWO night gap where Lady Wolf and Child have no place to stay (Peter’s place is being painted), so I decided to cash in some Amex points and head over the Blue Moon Hotel on Orchard Street.

Grandma Harriet always says: it is an ill wind that blows no good.

So dear Reader, let’s look at the good:

~The Blue Moon Hotel where we stayed for 2 nights was adorable, it’s a boutique hotel where we stayed in the Burns & Allen room. This was right next door to the Abbot and Costello room. (?!?)

~The baby and I had the luxury of sampling all the cute restaurants and bakeries the Lower East Side has to offer. Schiller’s Liquor Bar—don’t let the name fool you…it’s a French Bistro from the creator of Balthazar Restaurant and Pastis. Babycakes NYC, the cute vegan bake shop. DOUGHNUT PLANT, which has fancy donuts. They are soo soo soo soo good. Jin, the sushi restaurant where we went for happy hour. All rolls $3!! Yum.

~Once we got to Jane, I found it much more enjoyable to be there not spending my time with my cheek on the cool, hard tile of the bathroom floor due to my bizarre Parisian illness.

~I found my Christmas spirit. Friday, I was a grinchy grinchy grinch grinch grinch. Christmas was cancelled for 2011.  But then I took the baby for a little walk in the West Village. And nothing will get you into the Christmas Spirit like Santa Con.

This is one day in December where a staggering amount of people wearing Santa costumes drink in bars all day and stagger around.  It’s horrifying. BUT it made me feel better somehow so I decided to buck up and buy a fat little Christmas Tree and some soft little ornaments.

~Most importantly, Dearest Readers—by this time next week we will have an address. Believe it, for it is true. Please hold on to your Christmas Cards for me. I want them!

Get A Load of This

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…

We are still homeless.  For your own sanity I will spare you the excruciating details as to the hows and the whys and will instead ask if you will just cross every part of your body that can be crossed, then do a rain dance, then pray to the powers that be and then finally ask Santa for a Christmas Miracle, that on Tuesday, this will all be over and we will finally get to go home.

Because if not, we will be looking for a new apartment.  And Momma’s tired.  She’s not in the mood.  This adventure has now officially lost it’s luster.

However we are back at Peter’s beautiful SoHo loft and it is equipped with a lifetime supply of NutterButters.

Things could be a lot worse.
